Do you want to enter paradise?
To walk the path of Truth
You need the grace of God.
We all face death in the end.
But on the way, be careful
Never to hurt a human heart!

Altın Oran Sanat Evi (Golden Scale Art House) was established in 2003 by world-renowned artist, Dilek Selamet and Murat Selamet.
The studio is in Kozyatağı, which is on the Anatolian side of İstanbul, Turkey.

Dilek where classically trained in the ancient art of tezhib or illumination painting, Murat, in miniature painting.

Each piece can take up to 6 months to create. All of the art is unique, sourcing from traditional forms that have their roots in turkish art dating back as early as the Seljuk and Uighur periods.

The tezhib (tezhip) form uses Arabic or Persian scripts or calligraphy as a base which is then highly decorated to create a wonderful lasting image.

Miniatures (minyatür) tell their own stories, often recording a particular event, a place or person. For example on the right is a portrait of Fatih Sultan Mehmed similar to one that can been seen at the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul and is at present on display in London at the Royal Academy of Arts exhibition ‘Turks: A journey of a thousand years 600-1600’. Eat or not to eat?!

Eat or not to eat?!

In Istanbul – eat, no doubt! Food is essential in Turkey. I have tried to experience different tastes of Turkish cuisine and not been disappointed once. I have been tempted to taste local street food – eating grilled corn and drinking sahlep on Sultanahmet Square; have been eating at countless restaurants and cafes, enjoying picnics in the courtyard of Süleymaniye mosque and on the shore of Bosphorus. Still, I am very sorry that I have not been able to participate at iftar during Ramazan. But that day will come, that´s for sure.

Actually, my absolute first experience with real Turkish food was on a conference dinner in Istanbul, near Topkapi palace. The dinner venue was luxurious and so was the food. Six courses and my gastrointestinal tract was totally overloaded. The best of Turkish kitchen was presented at this dinner and, of course, I could not resist. My poor stomach… and foolish me… It resulted with a 2-days diet – only tea, no food. Such a thing can easily happen when you are curious about newly discovered tastes. Now I am smarter, just order a little.
