Nuruosmaniye Mosque

Nuruosmaniye Mosque is located in Çemberlitaş, near Column of Constantine (Çemberlitaş), Gazi Atik Ali Paşa Mosque and entrance of Grand Bazaar (Kapalıçarşı). It is one of the finest example of Ottoman Baroque style mosques.

It was built on a square plan.  There are 2 marble stairs to get in the mosque. 174 baroque style windows illuminate mosque. These windows are made of gypsum. Nuruosmaniye Mosque’s dome is one of the biggest dome in Ottoman architecture. The major dome’s diameter is 26 meters. Arch are carrying this dome. There are 32 windows on the bottom of major dome.

Ashura Day In Halkali

Thousands of Shiite Muslims gathered in İstanbul’s Halkalı district on Saturday to mark the day of Ashura and mourn the martyrdom of 72 people, including Husain, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, at the Battle of Karbala 1,369 years ago.

SALT

SALT is a not-for-profit institution founded by Garanti Bank. It opened in April 2011. SALT located across two buildings: SALT Galata and SALT Beyoğlu.

SALT Galata originally designed as 19th century Imperial Ottoman Bank headquarters by Alexandre Vallaury. SALT Galata houses a specialized, public library and archive; spaces dedicated to research, workshops, an exhibition and conference hall; as well as the Ottoman Bank Museum.

I have been to SALT Galata for a project named UrbanCloud. We modeled Gedikpaşa and basically we asked questions to city, we defined problems of Gedikpaşa. SALT Galata has a fascinating atmosphere so I took some photos inside building during project.
