Both the Mihrimah Sultan Mosques in Uskudar and Edirnekapi were constructed by Mimar Sinan ( the chief architect of Suleiman the Magnificent who was the father of Mihmirah).
Reportedly,Mimar Sinan was in love with Mihrimah and if you look towards the mosques, between two minarets of the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque in Uskudar, you can see the morning sunrise and evening sunset from the two minarets. In the same time, if you look towards the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque in Edirnekapi, between the two minarets, this time you can see the moon rise and moon set. Mihrimah means sun and moon as she was born at sunset.
The mosque details are fantastic! I wonder what you’ll show us tomorrow for the “perspective” theme day….
